The very best frosting for a Lemon Chiffon Cake

Lemon Chiffon Cake was a traditional cake that Grandpa's mother made for all six of her children's birthdays. Besides the use of lemon extract in her cakes, she also used Maraschino Cherry juice for flavor and color to both her frosting and cake. Great-grandma made a buttercream frosting and decorated her Chiffon cakes with tiny spherical candy sprinkles. Though I didn't follow every aspect of the tradition, this Lemon Chiffon Cake is one of Grandpa's favorites. Yay! It was made with tremendous love just for him. A really charming recipe!
